Migrating from Guesty: A Realistic 7-Day Plan

Migrating a 50-property portfolio feels scary. It doesn't have to be. Here's the playbook we use to move operators from Guesty to Shortrental.ai in seven days — with zero double-bookings and zero guest-facing downtime.

Day 0 — Audit

Before you touch anything, export from Guesty:

• All active listings (with photos, descriptions, pricing rules)
• Next 180 days of reservations
• Guest profiles (opted-in for marketing)
• Cleaning schedules and tasks
• Message templates

We provide a one-click importer that reads Guesty's export format. Most of this is automated.

Day 1–2 — Shadow mode

Set up Shortrental.ai as a co-host via the Airbnb API. Point it at your listings read-only. Connect Booking and Vrbo the same way.

Now you have both systems receiving the same data. Guesty still sends the real replies; Shortrental.ai is just watching.

At this stage, turn on Shadow Mode for the AI. The AI will draft replies for every guest message but won't send them. You review each draft in the Shortrental.ai inbox and compare it to what Guesty's templates would have sent.

You'll be surprised. After 2 days of shadow mode, most operators trust the AI on 80%+ of messages.

Day 3 — Dual run

Flip the switch so Shortrental.ai starts sending messages. Keep Guesty running in the background as a backup.

Configure:

• Which channels send via AI (start with email + SMS, keep Airbnb via Guesty)
• Which languages the AI answers in (enable auto-detect)
• Which upsells the AI can offer (early check-in, late checkout, extra cleaning)

Day 4–5 — Smart locks

Move your smart locks over. We support Yale, Schlage, August, Nuki, Igloohome and more. Each lock needs a 5-minute re-pairing.

This is the single biggest time-saver of the migration. Guest PIN generation becomes fully automated and unique per booking.

Day 6 — Cleaners and owners

Invite your cleaners to the Shortrental.ai cleaner portal. They'll see their jobs, QC checklists, photo proof requirements and earnings. Most cleaners prefer it to the Guesty task view within a day.

Send owner statements for the month via Shortrental.ai's owner portal. Once owners see the native financial dashboard, there's no going back.

Day 7 — Cut over

Turn Guesty off. Cancel the subscription. Enjoy.

The three mistakes to avoid

1. Don't cut over during a high season week. March, September or late November are ideal.
2. Don't skip shadow mode. Every operator who did regretted it.
3. Don't migrate cleaners last. Migrate them with your listings, not after. Cleaners are the single biggest source of friction if left behind.
